Alen BreatheSmart i75 Review

Alen has been one of the premier name brands in the Air Purification industry for a while now. I love their units and their company because they back up their solid products with a lifetime warranty.

The Alen’s Breathesmart 75i is their introduction into the high-end air purifier market.

While their Breathesmart Classic and Fit 50 are also great products, the BreatheSmart 75i is the newest Alen product as of May 2020 and is their best product to date.

I am a big fan of the BreatheSmart classic, but there are a few upgrades of the i75 that makes it enticing.

The real question is, is this air purifier the right one for you?

Features Of The Alen BreatheSmart 75i

HEPA Filters

Most air purifiers use HEPA filters (unless it uses technology like the Airocide). The Breathesmart 75i uses one as well.

However, the Alen BreatheSmart 75i uses a True HEPA Filter.

A true HEPA filter removes 99.97 % of all airborne particles as tiny as 0.3 microns. Most mold spores aren’t smaller than 0.3 microns, which is why this air purifier works well for mold

Alen has a few separate types of true HEPA filters you can choose from. While all of them are considered anti-microbial HEPA filters, they have some upgraded ones you can choose from that are better for removing specific types of odors.

Here are the different selections of HEPA filters that can be used with the Alen Breathesmart 75i:

• B7 Pure: The pure is all you need when it comes to mold, allergens, dust, and bacteria.
• B7 Fresh: The fresh works best if you are looking to get rid of odors such as cooking, chemicals, and smoke.
• B7 Pet- Works best for pet odors.
• B7-MP-Odor- Works best for all other household odors.

If your concern is strictly air quality, you will likely want the B7 Pure filter, which also happens to be the cheapest.

The filters are of higher quality than most other purification systems in that it usually lasts 12-15 months. The machine automatically notifies you with a red light on the top control panel when filters need to be replaced.

Design

The design of the Breathesmart 75i is very similar to their other models.
It’s square with rounded edges.

It’s not a big clunky oversized unit like some of the other air purifiers on the market.

The unit can stand alone on the floor or a shelf.

BreateSmart 75i’s much improved, the better-looking control panel is on the top of the unit while there are intakes on both sides and the bottom of the system. The output purified air grill is on the back top.

It’s on wheels if the 27 pounds is too heavy for you.

The dimensions for the BreatheSmart 75i are as follows:

• Width- 18.5 Inches
• Height- 27 Inches
• Depth- 11.5 Inches

Ozone Safe-Ionizer

There is a button on the control panel labeled “Ionizer.” When this button is pressed, the ozone-safe Ionizer is activated.

The ionizer is excellent when you need to get rid of airborne particles. While this unit is CARB approved, you don’t want to run this all day and night.

So how do you know when the Ionizer should be running?

That leads me to the next great feature!

Air Quality Monitor

Around the power button is a light that changes colors based upon the level of airborne particles in the air.

Each the color codes mean the following:

• Blue- Extremely low airborne particles
• Green- Low amounts of airborne particles
• Orange- Medium levels of airborne particles
• Red- Significant amount of airborne particles
• Purple- Extremely high amounts of airborne particles

When the light is red or purple, a right amount of consideration should be given to putting on the Ionizer.

Fan Speed

There are five fan speeds where you can make the air purifier more potent as needed. You have fan speeds 1-4 then you have turbo.

Automatic mode is also an option where it will automatically optimize the purifier for you.

If you wanted to run the unit on a timer, you have the option to run it either for either two, four, or twelve hours.

Coverage

The Alen BreatheSmart i75 completes air exchanges of up to 1300 square feet approximately two times per hour, according to the manufacturer.

I would recommend putting it in a smaller area to work more efficiently. According to the EPA’s recommendations for air cleaners, the Alen BreatheSmart 75i, would probably work best for an area approximately 550 square feet. It’s portable, so if you have a large area you can put it on one side of the room for a while and then the other side for period of time.

Noise

One of the best upgrades the i75 has over it’s predecessors is the amount of noise. Even on Level 5, the sound isn’t that high and won’t interrupt you while sleeping at night.

The noise levels are:

• Speed 1: 25 Decibels
• Speed 2: 33 Decibels
• Speed 3: 39 Decibels
• Speed 4: 44 Decibels
• Turbo: 49 Decibels

None of those levels should keep you awake.

Speaking of features, one of the things I love about this model is it produces something called Pink noise.

Pink noise is a frequency that is said to help you sleep better by 25%.

How Much Does The Alen BreatheSmart 75i Cost?

Being that this is Alencorp’s best air purifier to date, you would think it would be more expensive than it is.

The price of the Alen BreatheSmart 75i starts at $749. Compared to the original BreatheSmart, it’s only $100 more.

There are some upgrades, including changing to one of 14 colors (comes in white if no color preference). Also, if you wanted a filter more than the B7 pure, it’s a $69 upcharge.

Conclusion

In this BreathSmart 75i review, we went over all the great aspects of the air purifier but the one thing I love about the product is the fact that Alencorp backs it up.

If you wanted to get a lifetime warranty, you would have to register your product and sign up for their automatic filter subscription renewal.

Look:

You are going to have to replace the filter anyway, so you might as well do the automatic service just to get the warranty, but yes, it costs money.

I really like a product when the cons are only money-related. A good product shouldn’t be cheap. The Alen BreathSmart 75i is an awesome air purifier that I highly recommend!
